Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of scalable, resilient Java and Spring Boot services within Wise’s payment platform.
- Apply domain-driven design to model complex financial domains and build maintainable systems.
- Develop and operate event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems.
- Architect and optimize PostgreSQL and other relational database systems for high-scale financial workflows.
- Collaborate with Product, Implementation, Solutions Engineering, and Business Development on partner integrations.
- Influence architecture decisions, platform improvements, engineering standards, and technical planning across teams.
- Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions while promoting distributed-systems reliability and maintainability.
- Mentor engineers and help grow technical capability across the organization.
Requirements
- Extensive production experience building backend systems with Java and Spring Boot or similar languages and frameworks.
- Strong experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems and microservices architectures.
- Proven experience building or operating event-driven systems with Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and data integrity.
- Experience applying domain-driven design to complex business domains is preferred.
- A product mindset with customer-focused, data-driven decision-making.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards across teams.
