Base Salary
$182k - $242k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and design for large-scale, multi-team initiatives across backend systems, CMS platforms, video workflows, advertising systems, and monetization.
- Define scalable, secure, maintainable cloud-native solutions and coordinate dependencies and delivery across engineering groups.
- Provide architectural leadership for video transcoding, metadata ingestion, FAST channels, dynamic playlists, manifest generation, ad insertion, catalog exports, batch processing, CMS, and scheduling systems.
- Represent Xumo’s technical architecture with external partners and vendors and guide third-party integration strategies.
- Establish reliability, observability, scalability, security, and production troubleshooting best practices with DevOps.
- Define and maintain a 2–5 year architectural roadmap and translate emerging technologies into actionable platform strategy.
- Mentor engineers, elevate architectural standards, produce technical documentation, and align executive, product, business, and technical stakeholders.
- Work nights, weekends, and variable schedules as necessary and maintain regular, consistent, punctual attendance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, with consideration for coursework and experience or extensive related professional experience.
- 15+ years of relevant work experience, including 10+ years as a software engineer focused on Java backend development.
- At least 5 years designing and delivering distributed, cloud-native systems at scale, ideally involving Google Cloud.
- Proven Solutions Architect or equivalent technical leadership experience and a track record of independently leading large cross-team initiatives with multi-month timelines.
- Expertise in Java and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring Core, Spring Data, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud.
- Strong experience with microservices, domain-driven design, REST, gRPC, messaging, OpenAPI, API gateways, Kubernetes, Google Cloud, AWS integrations, and infrastructure automation.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, Kafka, RabbitMQ, event-driven architecture, data modeling, and batch processing.
- Knowledge of OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, secrets management, cloud security, networking, distributed systems, observability, Linux, scripting, Git workflows, and production diagnostics.
- Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, stakeholder-management, debugging, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Preferred experience includes video delivery for ad-supported environments, adaptive streaming, manifest manipulation, DRM, server-side ad insertion, CMS scheduling, AWS Workload Identity Federation or STS, and digital advertising ecosystems.
