Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain TypeScript microservices for billing lifecycle management across self-serve and enterprise plans.
- Build integrations with payment processing, usage metering, CRM, and financial platforms for contract and entitlement synchronization.
- Implement event-driven workflows to process contract events, provision entitlements, and trigger billing state transitions.
- Maintain entitlement enforcement across Kong’s multi-tenant platform and own the provisioning pipeline from sales opportunities to live organization configurations.
- Build internal billing administration tools for customer support and finance teams.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for financial-domain systems.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture planning, on-call rotations, and incident response for billing platform services.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with product managers, RevOps, finance, customer support, and other stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services and distributed systems.
- Strong proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js, including production microservices development with frameworks such as NestJS.
- Deep experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and transactional data modeling.
- Experience designing event-driven architectures with Kafka, SQS, or similar messaging platforms.
- Experience integrating third-party financial or billing platforms such as Stripe, Zuora, or Chargebee.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts including consistency, idempotency, eventual consistency, and failure recovery.
- Experience building microservices that consume and produce CRM events for automated provisioning or fulfillment workflows.
- Understanding of multi-tenant SaaS architecture and per-organization entitlement enforcement.
- Experience deploying and operating production services with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins, and collaboration tools such as GitHub, JIRA, or Confluence.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams and debugging complex distributed data consistency issues.
- Preferred experience includes usage-based billing, metering, consumption rating, Snowflake, internal billing administration tools, financial reconciliation, audit trails, prorated billing, invoices, credits, refunds, AWS Marketplace, CPQ, Druid, ClickHouse, Terraform, Pulumi, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Istio, Linkerd, mTLS, or internal tooling UIs.
