Responsibilities
- Design, code, and deliver high-quality full-stack software solutions for RBC back-office operations.
- Direct a diverse squad of technical, product, and design professionals to deliver products aligned with Agile principles and RBC’s Ways of Working.
- Provide technical direction, architecture and design expertise, and implementation leadership for Java Spring Boot applications and Python solutions.
- Establish coding best practices, promote shift-left quality assurance, and maintain standards for code quality, maintainability, robustness, and simplicity.
- Plan and advocate for upgrades to the journey’s technology stack and serve as a trusted technical advisor.
- Work with Product Owners and Scrum Masters to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure deliverables meet business needs.
- Modernize legacy systems through codebase refactoring and migration to modern architectures or frameworks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 8–10 years of experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Core Java 17 or later, including records, sealed classes, pattern matching, the Streams API, and Java concurrency.
- Proficiency with Spring Boot for production-grade microservices, REST APIs, dependency injection, configuration management, and Spring ecosystem integrations.
- Experience with JPA and Hibernate for entity modeling, transaction management, database persistence, and query performance tuning.
- Experience with at least one enterprise messaging technology such as IBM MQ, Solace, or Apache Kafka, including messaging patterns, delivery guarantees, and reliability semantics.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker, including deployment manifests, service configuration, scaling strategies, and troubleshooting containerized workloads.
- Working knowledge of Python and data-manipulation libraries such as Pandas or Polars, including database connections from Python applications.
- Hands-on experience modernizing legacy systems and migrating to modern architectures or frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jira, Confluence, and Jenkins.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Experience using generative AI developer productivity tools.
- Familiarity with compliance and audit issues affecting banking businesses in capital markets is preferred.
- Experience with SQL queries, Microsoft Office macros and scripting, and Microsoft Office products is preferred.
- Ability to create architecture and design concepts and collaborate with senior technical leads, business analysts, peer developers, and junior developers.
