Responsibilities
- Own backend features end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through rollout and production monitoring.
- Re-architect the flex-loan repeat offer pipeline that determines customer eligibility, pricing, and borrowing amounts.
- Maintain and support the lending_decision app inside iwoca-django, repeats pricing and offer-amount services, and customer account pages.
- Write clean, tested Python and participate in code reviews.
- Monitor production systems and troubleshoot issues.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and Analytics teams and deliver features through split tests.
- Gradually take on front-end work in Pandora using React and TypeScript.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of commercial engineering experience.
- Ability to write clear, testable Python; expert-level Python knowledge is not required.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
- Interest in learning front-end development with React and TypeScript.
- Experience writing automated tests and commitment to code quality and safe releases.
- Clear written and spoken communication, including the ability to explain technical work to non-engineers.
- Experience using experiments and metrics to guide product decisions.
- Regular use of AI tools such as Cursor or Claude Code.
- Preferred familiarity with Django or FastAPI.
- Preferred exposure to Docker, AWS, Kubernetes, Snowflake, or Looker.
- A strong numerical or technical background, such as mathematics, physics, computer science, or engineering, or relevant industry experience.
