Responsibilities
- Own application operations and production support for internal and public-facing services in AWS and container environments, focusing on availability, resiliency, scalability, performance, and security.
- Drive production readiness for new services and features through provisioning, automation, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, runbooks, rollback planning, and operational acceptance criteria.
- Build scripts, tools, and repeatable workflows to reduce toil, improve incident response, and standardize operational practices.
- Improve observability and event correlation using service health signals, dashboards, alerts, and incident workflows that reduce MTTD and MTTR.
- Support and improve incident management using Slack, JIRA, ServiceNow, BigPanda, and related escalation systems.
- Partner with SRE, data services, CI/CD, service engineering, platform hosting, and product teams to improve reliability and operational readiness.
- Drive performance, capacity, and cost optimization using AWS, Kubernetes, EKS/UKS, autoscaling, and related cloud patterns.
- Use AI-assisted and agentic engineering tools such as Codex, Claude, and Cursor to accelerate development, automation, and production-signal analysis.
- Provide rotational on-call support, lead incident triage and mitigation, and document post-incident reviews with corrective actions.
Requirements
- Senior hands-on experience spanning software development, systems engineering, and production operations.
- 5+ years operating and supporting services in production environments at scale.
- 3+ years of AWS Cloud experience deploying, tuning, and operating Java/API services.
- Strong knowledge of distributed service operations, Unix/Linux systems internals, networking, TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, load balancing, and API troubleshooting.
- Experience with AWS service operations, containers, Kubernetes/EKS/UKS, Fargate, automation, software development, source control, configuration management, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, incident management, and operational data platforms.
- Programming experience in Python, Go, or Java and experience with GitHub/Git, Ansible, Chef, Terraform, CloudFormation, Jenkins, Spinnaker, or comparable tools.
- Experience with on-call support, incident coordination, stakeholder communications, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action tracking.
- Strong troubleshooting across user experience, application runtime, Linux, infrastructure, cloud, Kubernetes/EKS/UKS, and network layers.
- Ability to work independently, mentor less experienced engineers, lead technical initiatives, and communicate technical issues and business impact to varied audiences.
- Experience with AI-assisted development or agentic engineering workflows using Codex, Claude, Cursor, or similar tools.
- Payment processing, commerce, entitlement, wallet, fraud, or financial systems experience is preferred.
- A BS degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical area is required.
