Responsibilities
- Define and drive technical vision for Walmart’s Legal technology ecosystem, including agentic AI workflows, automation platforms, and governance systems.
- Lead architectural decisions, author Architecture Decision Records, and establish engineering standards and platform patterns adopted across teams.
- Architect, build, test, and deploy scalable automation solutions serving millions of users and stakeholders.
- Own reliability, scalability, security posture, observability, SLOs/SLAs, and cost-efficiency for architected systems.
- Drive cross-organization alignment and influence technical decisions through proposals, prototypes, and structured communication.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design feedback, technical talks, and hands-on pairing.
- Lead complex, cross-team, multi-quarter initiatives from ambiguous requirements through production delivery.
- Make build-versus-buy-versus-reuse decisions and drive reduction of systemic technical debt.
- Implement security practices for access governance, data privacy, and sensitive legal information.
- Measure product, operational, and portfolio performance using defined metrics and KPIs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent qualification under the stated minimum alternatives.
- At least 9 years of hands-on software engineering experience is requested in the role description; minimum qualifications allow a bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience or 6 years of experience without the degree option.
- Deep knowledge of service-oriented architecture and experience building and consuming web services.
- Strong Java and Spring expertise, including Spring Boot, JVM internals, concurrency, and multithreading.
- Hands-on experience with Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, Hibernate, scalable backend services, React, Redux, JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, database design, and SQL.
- Hands-on experience designing and deploying production-scale agentic AI and LLM-based workflow automation, including agent orchestration, tool-use patterns, and prompt engineering.
- Experience with access-governance patterns, data-security implementation, distributed systems, and large-scale system design.
- Production experience with GCP or Azure and highly available systems.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, observability, log aggregation, monitoring, alerting, and SLOs/SLAs.
- Working knowledge of Kafka and familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with JUnit, Jest, React Testing Library, and SonarQube.
- Ability to author technical design documents and ADRs, establish engineering standards, communicate technical tradeoffs, operate amid ambiguity, and influence without authority.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree plus 2 years of software engineering experience, Cosmos DB, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Hadoop, Spark, Scala, Airflow, accessibility principles, and InnerSource or open-source contributions.
