Responsibilities
- Design large or complex system, application, and enterprise architectures according to RBC standards and industry best practices.
- Evaluate and improve existing architectures, identify weaknesses, propose alternatives, and document architectural decisions.
- Develop and monitor KPIs and KRIs for architectural attributes such as security, scalability, availability, performance, and compliance.
- Lead solutions through RBC’s architecture governance process from inception through completion.
- Mentor development teams and create hands-on proofs of concept to demonstrate architectural patterns.
- Manage implementation of large, complex initiatives, plan technical development activities, and communicate risks.
- Apply current best practices across front-end, backend, platform, and data architecture.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs and SOAP web services using Java or .NET microservice architectures on cloud-native platforms such as OpenShift or Cloud Foundry.
- Familiarity with distributed computing concepts and IaaS/PaaS solutions using Azure and AWS, including containers, serverless, service meshes, immutable architectures, and declarative APIs.
- Strong understanding of application security, including encryption, IAM, SSO, federation, token management, and certificate management.
- Extensive database development experience with SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle, including RDBMS design and SQL query development.
- Thorough understanding of web application architecture, web servers, firewalls, CDNs, application frameworks, and interoperability.
- Experience with low-code platforms such as Salesforce, OutSystems, Microsoft Power Apps, or Blue Prism is preferred.
- Experience with messaging and queuing architectures such as Microsoft Message Queuing or Kafka is preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Angular, React, HTML5, and CSS3, including accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.0, is preferred.
- Experience implementing internationalization and localization standards and working with NoSQL databases is preferred.
