Responsibilities
- Build and evolve scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities from technical discovery and design through production implementation.
- Define APIs, domain boundaries, integration patterns, and architecture for the Core Commerce Services platform.
- Make pragmatic decisions concerning scalability, reliability, security, observability, and long-term maintainability.
- Align technical decisions and integration contracts across Checkout, Payment, Product, and dependent engineering teams.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, code reviews, and technical feedback.
- Partner with Product to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions and foundations for AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce, and emerging channels.
Requirements
- Strong Java and backend engineering expertise with experience building backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience contributing directly to production code.
- Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent senior technical leadership, including strong system design, architecture, autonomy, and technical ownership.
- Ability to shape architecture, APIs, and domain boundaries in a greenfield or 0-to-1 environment.
- Ability to evaluate options, understand trade-offs, and make pragmatic technical decisions amid ambiguity.
- Strong record of mentoring engineers, leading through influence, raising technical standards, and creating alignment across engineering domains.
- Experience with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is preferred but not required.
