Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable APIs and microservices using REST, GraphQL, and event-driven patterns.
- Build backend services in Go, Java, or Python and develop full-stack platform capabilities with React and micro-frontends when needed.
- Architect distributed systems that process millions of records across batch and real-time pipelines.
- Build streaming and ingestion systems using Kafka and Flink.
- Develop control-plane services for orchestration, workflow management, and metadata-driven automation.
- Design self-service infrastructure abstractions for storage, compute, and workflow provisioning.
- Build highly available and fault-tolerant systems, define SLAs and SLIs, and drive observability across platform services.
- Implement testing, CI/CD, cloud-native practices, performance optimization, deployment improvements, and operational automation.
- Participate in on-call rotations and take operational ownership of platform services.
- Partner with product managers, architects, data engineers, and ML teams on scalable systems and technical strategy.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to code reviews, design discussions, documentation, and engineering best practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
- Strong programming skills in Go, Java, or Python.
- Experience designing and building distributed systems or microservices architectures.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Experience building and consuming REST, GraphQL, and event-driven APIs.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, containerization, and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them effectively.
- Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka and Flink is preferred.
- Experience with Spark, Trino/Presto, Hive, or EMR is preferred.
- Experience building data platforms, storage systems, or orchestration engines such as Airflow or Temporal is preferred.
- Familiarity with data modeling, schema design, large-scale data processing, observability, and monitoring frameworks is preferred.
- Background in developer platforms or internal tooling is preferred.
Benefits
- For Canada-based roles, the starting base salary is $107,000 to $157,300 annually, with offers based on experience and geographic location and potentially exceeding the range.
- The compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, stock grants, and comprehensive benefits.
- The role may require in-person onboarding and/or in-person identity verification.
