Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy Java/Kotlin backend services processing high-volume telemetry and alerting workloads.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers working on streaming systems, infrastructure, design, user interfaces, and customer-facing APIs.
- Implement alerting features across the pipeline, reduce technical debt, and retire outdated architecture.
- Advocate for architecture improvements, establish future direction, and assess tradeoffs.
- Deploy code to customers multiple times per day.
- Share accountability for the reliability and security of the team’s software.
- Write clean, tested, and maintainable code; participate in code reviews and technical documentation.
- Submit well-contextualized pull requests to other teams’ codebases.
- Work collaboratively with frequent customer feedback.
Requirements
- At least five years of professional backend software engineering experience, preferably in a SaaS or product-based environment.
- Strong Java proficiency, willingness to work with Kotlin, and knowledge of object-oriented programming, RESTful APIs, and multithreaded programming.
- Experience building multithreaded Java services and delivering reliable, high-throughput production services to customers.
- Experience with relational databases, complex SQL, optimization, pagination, partitioning, and scaling.
- Experience with distributed systems and writing code and queries that perform at scale.
- Experience delivering APIs consumed by internal or external customers.
- Demonstrated empathy for end users and understanding of how backend data logistics, persistence, and retrieval affect customer experience.
- Experience working in an agile environment characterized by rapid change.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including consensus-building, leading by example, persistence, and tenacity.
- AI and LLM development experience, including LLMs, AI agents, prompt design, LLM API integration, retrieval-augmented workflows, model evaluation, or MCP server development, is preferred.
- Familiarity with Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming, AMQP, RabbitMQ, or gRPC is preferred.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, AWS, GCP, or Azure is preferred.
- Frontend awareness or working knowledge of React, TypeScript, GraphQL, or CSS is preferred.
