Responsibilities

Build and evolve the Core Commerce Services platform and scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities.
Define APIs, domain boundaries, integration patterns, and architecture for a secure, reliable, observable, and maintainable platform.
Collaborate with Checkout, Payment, Product, and other dependent teams to align technical decisions and integration contracts.
Contribute directly to production code while leading system design and architectural decisions.
Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, code reviews, and technical feedback.
Help establish technical foundations for AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce, and emerging channels.

Strong Java and backend engineering expertise.
Experience designing and building backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.
Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent senior technical leadership.
Strong system design, architecture, technical ownership, and autonomous decision-making capabilities.
Experience shaping architecture, APIs, and domain boundaries in greenfield or 0-to-1 environments.
Track record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence across engineering domains.
Experience with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is preferred but not required.

Remote work from Germany, with the option to work from elsewhere in the EU for up to 20 days per year and occasional on-site collaboration in Berlin or Cologne.
