Base Salary

$140k - $160k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship iOS features by enhancing existing code and creating new functionality.
  • Write maintainable Swift and SwiftUI code.
  • Design, implement, and maintain event collection, experimentation, analytics instrumentation, and mobile data contracts.
  • Build shared libraries or SDK-style code consumed by multiple teams or applications.
  • Participate in code reviews, write unit tests, and collaborate with QA on automated functional tests.
  • Integrate with internal New York Times services and external third-party APIs.
  • Contribute to app architecture, documentation, technical roadmaps, and timeline estimates.
  • Own large technical initiatives from design through rollout.
  • Ensure mobile data systems are reliable, performant, privacy-conscious, and extensible.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional experience building native iOS applications in Swift.
  • Expertise in Swift, Swift Concurrency, and modern iOS architectural patterns such as MVVM and unidirectional data flow.
  • Experience designing and maintaining shared libraries or SDK-style code used by multiple teams or applications.
  • Experience with analytics systems, event-driven architectures, or experimentation frameworks.
  • Experience independently owning large technical initiatives from design through rollout.
  • Preferred: experience with mobile platform tooling or internal SDKs.
  • Preferred: familiarity with experimentation systems, feature flags, and A/B testing infrastructure.
  • Preferred: experience optimizing startup time, memory footprint, and runtime performance.
  • Preferred: knowledge of mobile data governance, privacy considerations, and compliance requirements.
  • Preferred: experience with high-traffic consumer applications at scale.
