Responsibilities
- Build and ship iOS features by enhancing existing code and creating new functionality.
- Write maintainable Swift and SwiftUI code.
- Design, implement, and maintain event collection, experimentation, analytics instrumentation, and mobile data contracts.
- Build shared libraries or SDK-style code consumed by multiple teams or applications.
- Participate in code reviews, write unit tests, and collaborate with QA on automated functional tests.
- Integrate with internal New York Times services and external third-party APIs.
- Contribute to app architecture, documentation, technical roadmaps, and timeline estimates.
- Own large technical initiatives from design through rollout.
- Ensure mobile data systems are reliable, performant, privacy-conscious, and extensible.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience building native iOS applications in Swift.
- Expertise in Swift, Swift Concurrency, and modern iOS architectural patterns such as MVVM and unidirectional data flow.
- Experience designing and maintaining shared libraries or SDK-style code used by multiple teams or applications.
- Experience with analytics systems, event-driven architectures, or experimentation frameworks.
- Experience independently owning large technical initiatives from design through rollout.
- Preferred: experience with mobile platform tooling or internal SDKs.
- Preferred: familiarity with experimentation systems, feature flags, and A/B testing infrastructure.
- Preferred: experience optimizing startup time, memory footprint, and runtime performance.
- Preferred: knowledge of mobile data governance, privacy considerations, and compliance requirements.
- Preferred: experience with high-traffic consumer applications at scale.
