Base Salary
$166k - $331k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and implementation of Copilot’s memory storage, schema, write path, retrieval layer, and lifecycle management at Microsoft 365 scale.
- Design and ship pipelines that derive high-precision memory from mail, meetings, documents, and chat, along with inference-time retrieval.
- Set technical direction for privacy, compliance, consent, transparency, tenant and regional boundaries, retention, deletion, and auditability.
- Partner with Applied Science on offline and online evaluation metrics and experimentation for memory quality and user outcomes.
- Raise engineering standards through design and code reviews, live-site and observability practices, and technical mentorship.
- Influence partner teams across Microsoft 365, Windows, and the Copilot platform to align contracts, schemas, and platform capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check.
- Preferred: master’s or doctorate in Computer Science or a related technical field and 10+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: 4+ years designing, shipping, and operating large-scale distributed services or data platforms in production.
- Preferred: experience building memory, personalization, knowledge graph, retrieval, vector or hybrid search, entity resolution, or user modeling systems in production.
- Preferred: hands-on experience with LLM-based systems, context construction, agent orchestration, evaluation harnesses, grounding, and safety techniques.
- Preferred: experience with privacy-preserving and compliance-sensitive data systems, including data residency, retention, deletion, and consent management.
- Preferred: ability to work through ambiguity, balance scientific exploration with engineering rigor, and influence and mentor senior engineers across teams.
Benefits
- The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $165,600–$296,400 per year; specific ranges apply to the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
