Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for the payments platform using Golang microservices.
- Lead complex, multi-team projects and drive technical architecture and long-term system health.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, frontend engineers, and backend engineers to deliver features.
- Participate in system design reviews and contribute to the engineering strategy.
- Own code quality, reliability, and observability from development through production.
- Plan and execute projects from inception to delivery.
- Mentor peers and junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotations, escalations, and critical production incident support.
- Establish operational excellence standards covering SLAs, SLOs, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with modern programming languages such as Golang, Java, Python, Ruby, or C#; Golang is preferred or candidates may be willing to learn it.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and inter-service communication, including technologies such as protobufs/gRPC, Kafka, and Redis.
- Experience with relational databases and SQL.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and take responsibility for production systems.
- Experience deploying and maintaining services in cloud environments, especially Google Cloud Platform.
- Comfort with Docker, Kubernetes, observability tooling, and service reliability.
- Experience with protobufs/gRPC or Temporal and with breaking monoliths into microservices.
- Ability to address technical debt and scalability and communicate complex systems to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
