Responsibilities
- Design and build resilient web applications, microservices, APIs, and backend services for MoD cloud and hybrid landing zones.
- Develop native Android background services in Kotlin or Java, including thread management and IPC through AIDL and Binders.
- Build data routers and integrations connecting C2 displays such as OmniTAK and ATAK with backend services.
- Implement NCSC Secure Development Principles, NCSC Cloud Security Guidance, JSP 440 controls, and Secure by Design practices.
- Automate build, test, and containerisation pipelines for air-gapped and enterprise cloud environments using Docker, GitOps, GitLab CI, and GitHub Actions.
- Lead technical user stories on funded MoD statements of work and mentor mid-level engineers.
Requirements
- Active UK SC Clearance and compliance with UK nationality or sovereignty requirements.
- Hands-on experience delivering under MoD software development standards and Secure by Design frameworks.
- At least 4 years of production experience with modern web stacks including TypeScript, React, Node.js, or Python/FastAPI.
- Strong API design experience with REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and WebSocket, plus relational and non-relational database design.
- Proficiency in Kotlin or Java on native Android environments, including background services, thread management, and IPC via AIDL or Binders.
- Understanding of event-driven architectures, local socket communication, and memory optimisation in resource-constrained environments.
- Experience with TAK/ATAK, WinTAK, OmniTAK, Cursor-on-Target, or STANAG 4586 is desirable.
- Familiarity with K3s, Podman, Room, RocksDB, Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-055, or ALARP risk management is desirable.
