$325k - $385k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and ship Android monetization experiences including plan selection, purchase flows, subscription management, entitlements, and policy-aware UX patterns.
- Design and maintain shared Android frameworks and primitives for account, trust, and commerce flows across OpenAI’s mobile applications.
- Own complex Android systems end-to-end across UI architecture, networking, local persistence and state, observability, and release processes.
- Integrate Android platform and ecosystem components such as Google Play Billing, authentication, device security signals, deep links, and push notifications.
- Optimize startup time, rendering, network resiliency, battery usage, crash-free sessions, performance, reliability, and responsiveness at global scale.
- Establish testing and quality systems covering unit, integration, and UI tests, CI reliability, automated regression, and release validation.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Research, backend, and Safety to deliver secure, private, fair, and policy-compliant features.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, mentoring, and engineering standards across the Android foundations surface.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with meaningful Android ownership.
- Track record of building and shipping high-quality Android applications in production, especially reliability- and trust-sensitive identity and payment flows.
- Fluency in Kotlin and/or Java, with comfort using Android tooling and architecture including Gradle, Android Studio, modern app architecture patterns, and Jetpack libraries.
- Ability to make pragmatic architectural tradeoffs while keeping systems maintainable, testable, and scalable.
- Strong focus on performance, security, privacy, user experience, and product quality.
- Comfort working in 0→1 environments where systems, architecture, and user experiences are defined from scratch.
