Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate backend services, APIs, and infrastructure for AI development, evaluation, deployment, and agent applications.
- Build and operate data ingestion and ETL pipelines that process large amounts of data for AI workflows.
- Apply distributed systems principles to address scalability, concurrency, fault tolerance, performance, and reliability challenges.
- Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring, debugging, production health, on-call, and ongoing operational improvements.
- Ensure systems meet enterprise requirements for security, privacy, robustness, and compliance.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture discussions, design and code reviews, mentoring, and collaboration with product, research, infrastructure, and machine learning teams.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software development experience, including architecting, building, and scaling secure, robust, and efficient software systems.
- 5+ years of Python development experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, advanced Python, asynchronous and concurrent programming, generators, and higher-order abstractions.
- Deep systems knowledge, including Unix/Linux environments, command-line tooling, networking fundamentals, and distributed systems concepts.
- Experience designing stable APIs and service interfaces and building ETL pipelines with tools such as PySpark.
- Proficiency with cloud and container platforms, including AWS or GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Ability to write clean, testable, maintainable code and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to collaborate across teams, independently execute, take ownership, contribute to architecture, and mentor other engineers.
Benefits
- Annualized base salary ranges from $156,000 to $234,000 for the primary Boulder, Colorado location and from $148,200 to $264,000 for additional US locations.
- Potential eligibility for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus and annual refresh stock grants.
- Flexible work model requiring at least 50% of time each quarter in the office or in the field, with remote home-office roles also able to gather in Workday offices.
