Responsibilities
- Define and evolve long-term technical vision for backend services, platform capabilities, and cloud architecture.
- Lead cross-domain architectural initiatives, modernization efforts, technology decisions, and technical governance across multiple teams.
- Set AWS architecture and operational standards across serverless, event-driven, cloud-native, security, resilience, disaster recovery, observability, compliance, and cost optimization.
- Influence Infrastructure-as-Code, deployment automation, platform engineering, developer tooling, and shared engineering capabilities.
- Improve engineering quality through architectural reviews, design guidance, technical mentorship, standardization, technical-debt management, and engineering-effectiveness frameworks.
- Partner with product, design, data, frontend, infrastructure, security, and engineering leadership teams to align technical strategy with business goals.
- Contribute to frontend and full-stack architecture, integration patterns, performance, reliability, and end-to-end customer experience when needed.
- Provide hands-on contributions across the stack to unblock critical initiatives or validate architectural approaches.
Requirements
- Berlin-based with 7+ years of engineering experience.
- Deep expertise designing, building, and operating production systems on AWS at scale, including serverless, cloud-native, and distributed systems.
- Expert-level TypeScript experience in backend and service-oriented environments.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, fault tolerance, API design, asynchronous architectures, integration patterns, and SQL and NoSQL data stores.
- Proven success leading organization-wide technical initiatives and influencing at scale.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code such as CDK or Terraform, CI/CD, release engineering, operational automation, internal platforms, and developer tooling.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, compliance, resilience, disaster recovery, observability, reliability engineering, and cost optimization.
- Comfort working with TypeScript, React, and React Native frontend applications and debugging end-to-end flows across browsers, APIs, services, and data layers.
- Strong communication, leadership, coaching, architectural consultation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
