Responsibilities
- Own the design, implementation, verification, and release of real-time systems and test infrastructure software for command handling, telemetry, mode and state management, timing, device control, and health monitoring.
- Implement fault management behaviors including limit checks, safe responses, retries, timeouts, watchdog patterns, and degraded modes.
- Support ground software for commanding, telemetry ingest and display, data archiving, operator tooling, connectivity testing, compatibility testing, and mission operations.
- Build and improve hardware-in-the-loop benches and automated regression suites while integrating avionics and instruments for end-to-end verification.
- Lead hardware/software interface troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions for significant anomalies.
- Develop or integrate state estimation, planning, autonomy, process optimization, and anomaly detection algorithms for safety-critical and robotic systems.
- Maintain software requirements, acceptance criteria, interface control documents, verification plans, traceability, test evidence, release documentation, and technical design documentation.
- Collaborate across software, systems, GNC, avionics, mission operations, hardware, and quality teams; participate in reviews, planning, code standards, and mentoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, robotics engineering, aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of professional experience delivering embedded or mission- and safety-critical software and owning features from design through verification.
- Proficiency in C/C++, Python, Git, embedded or real-time operating systems, and Linux.
- Experience with real-time embedded software concepts such as concurrency, timing, determinism, and robust error handling.
- Ability to integrate and debug across software, firmware, and hardware boundaries and lead root-cause investigations.
- Experience developing or integrating state estimation and planning algorithms for autonomous or robotic systems.
- Experience with requirements, interfaces, verification planning, test evidence, technical reviews, and structured development environments.
- Preferred qualifications include a master's degree, bare-metal embedded systems experience, command and telemetry frameworks, HIL benches, automated regression, static and dynamic analysis, fault management, robotic middleware, secure communications, instrumentation, low-level code, performance analysis, and DOORS or Jama.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
