Responsibilities
- Develop infrastructure to capture, process, and reliably deliver billions of events to PostHog products.
- Own the ingestion service end to end and make architectural and product decisions.
- Design efficient distributed systems capable of handling terabytes of data and high event throughput.
- Build and maintain open-source software in the ingestion pipeline’s hot path.
- Evaluate and select technologies as data volume and system requirements evolve.
- Ship small, frequent changes while preserving system reliability and data integrity.
Requirements
- Experience with highly scalable, event-driven distributed systems.
- Experience developing multi-tenant software-as-a-service products.
- Experience with Node.js, Go, Rust, or similar programming languages.
- Experience operating Kafka and PostgreSQL, Redis, or similar systems at scale.
- Ability to ship changes quickly without breaking systems.
- Preferred experience with customer data platforms or similar analytics systems.
- Preferred experience responding to incidents and carrying a pager.
- Preferred comfort provisioning and maintaining cloud infrastructure.
- Preferred experience with benchmarking and profiling tools.
- Preferred knowledge of observability systems and practices.
