Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction and architecture of the Hardware Abstraction Layer and drive its migration for next-generation robotics platforms.
- Own the design and evolution of robotics telemetry and replay systems to improve observability, reliability, and data quality.
- Migrate middleware components from Python to high-performance C++ implementations.
- Architect and develop C++ middleware for communication between sensors, compute, and autonomy systems.
- Integrate and bring up hardware components including LiDARs, cameras, and IMUs.
- Optimize latency, throughput, memory usage, CPU efficiency, and overall performance across the robotics stack.
- Collaborate with hardware, applications, autonomy, and QA teams on system integration and deployment.
- Establish software design, code quality, testing, and documentation practices.
- Mentor engineers, guide design reviews, and lead complex debugging efforts.
- Contribute hands-on code while driving long-term architectural improvements, development workflow improvements, testing strategies, and system reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, robotics, or a related technical field.
- At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Professional experience with robotics systems, embedded platforms, or hardware abstraction layers.
- Experience leading complex technical initiatives or architectural changes in production systems.
- Expert proficiency in modern C++, including multithreading, memory management, and performance optimization.
- Strong Python skills for scripting, tooling, and system integration.
- Experience integrating LiDARs, cameras, and IMUs into production systems.
- Strong experience with Linux-based development environments such as Ubuntu.
- Experience designing and developing middleware systems or inter-process communication frameworks.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as MQTT or similar paradigms.
- Experience with build systems such as CMake and unit testing frameworks such as Google Test.
- Experience designing scalable, maintainable, and modular architectures, debugging complex robotics or embedded systems, and profiling system performance.
- Proficiency with version control systems such as Git.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship without direct management responsibility.
- Preferred experience includes autonomous mobile robots, large-scale re-architecture or migration, telemetry and observability systems, custom non-ROS middleware, real-time systems, and hardware-software integration.
