Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across squads, set engineering direction, and raise technical standards.
- Design, build, and evolve secure, scalable, resilient software platforms and distributed systems.
- Lead architecture and solution design decisions for complex systems.
- Drive cloud-native, event-driven, and legacy-modernisation initiatives.
- Own software solutions across design, development, deployment, production operations, and continuous improvement.
- Champion software quality, testing, observability, security, operational excellence, and DevSecOps practices.
- Mentor engineers and grow technical capability across teams.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, and Operations to deliver customer outcomes.
- Drive adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices, reusable platform capabilities, and modern software delivery techniques.
Requirements
- Experience with Node.js and TypeScript for backend development.
- Experience building APIs, microservices, distributed applications, and scalable high-performance backend systems.
- Experience with cloud-native engineering and platform technologies, including AWS, Kubernetes, and containerised applications.
- Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience building observable and resilient production systems.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, Kafka or similar messaging platforms, microservices, distributed systems, API-first design, scalability, resilience, and performance optimisation.
- Experience leading technical direction across multiple teams or initiatives and making architecture and solution design decisions.
- Experience coaching and mentoring engineers, driving engineering standards and best practices, and owning software across its full lifecycle.
- Experience in high-availability or mission-critical platforms, regulated or security-sensitive environments, legacy modernisation, cloud-native and distributed architectures, or enterprise-scale software is advantageous.
- Payments or financial services experience is helpful but not required.
