Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across squads, set engineering direction, and raise technical standards.
- Design, build, and evolve secure, scalable, resilient software platforms, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Lead architecture and solution design decisions for complex distributed systems.
- Drive modernisation using cloud-native and event-driven architectures.
- Own software end-to-end from design and development through deployment, production operations, and continuous improvement.
- Champion software quality, testing, observability, security, operational excellence, and DevSecOps practices.
- Mentor engineers and grow technical capability across teams.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Operations, and engineering teams to deliver customer outcomes.
- Drive adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices, reusable platform capabilities, and modern software delivery techniques.
Requirements
- Experience with Node.js and TypeScript for backend development.
- Experience building APIs, microservices, distributed applications, and scalable high-performance backend systems.
- Experience with cloud-native engineering, AWS, Kubernetes, containerised applications, and production platforms.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation and modern CI/CD practices.
- Experience designing and operating event-driven architectures, Kafka or similar messaging platforms, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Experience with API-first design, scalability, resilience, performance optimisation, observability, and production operations.
- Experience leading technical direction across multiple teams or initiatives, architecture and solution design, coaching and mentoring, and engineering standards.
- Experience building high-availability or mission-critical platforms, working in regulated or security-sensitive environments, modernising legacy platforms, or delivering enterprise-scale software used by millions of customers is advantageous.
- Payments or financial-services experience is helpful but not required.
