Principal Solution Engineer

Responsibilities
- Partner with field Solutions Engineers to identify customer and sales needs and drive adoption of solutions across the field.
- Build working prototypes ahead of general availability, including AI-assisted coding prototypes such as dashboards and knowledge graphs.
- Engage strategic and executive-level customers to validate prototypes and pressure-test competitive positioning.
- Develop and maintain competitive readiness materials, talk tracks, demo environments, architecture decks, and Customer Zero materials.
- Experiment with emerging AI capabilities and skills, including Slack skills, TabNext skills, and Beacon.
- Deliver demos and technical assets aligned to the distinct value drivers of Salesforce and Tableau buyers.
- Serve as a product subject-matter expert for Tableau Cloud and Tableau Desktop.
- Share field learnings across the Solutions Center of Excellence and develop scalable tooling for the field.
Requirements
- Several years of hands-on solutions engineering, sales engineering, or technical pre-sales experience, ideally involving analytics, business intelligence, or data platforms.
- Deep, current expertise in Tableau Cloud and Tableau Desktop.
- Ability to independently build working technical prototypes, including with AI-assisted coding tools.
- Experience partnering with a field or sales organization to translate feedback into actionable product input.
- Ability to communicate technical gaps and opportunities clearly to field stakeholders.
- Experience with Tableau, Salesforce, or another enterprise data and analytics platform is preferred.
- Experience with Model Context Protocol-based integrations or agentic workflows is preferred.
- Experience contributing to structured feedback loops between field and product organizations is preferred.
- Experience supporting customers or colleagues outside the candidate’s home region is preferred.

- The stated base salary range is $172,500–$260,100 annually, or $207,800–$285,800 annually in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area locations.
