Responsibilities
- Identify cloud cost and engineering-efficiency opportunities using production profiling, telemetry, cost data, capacity trends, and system analysis.
- Apply performance and capacity engineering to optimize CPU, memory, storage, network, and I/O resource usage under production workloads.
- Write production code for JVM and garbage-collection tuning, algorithmic improvements, resource-efficiency changes, and service re-architecture.
- Define and track metrics such as cost per GB ingested, cost per query, cost per event, resource utilization, and cost per customer workload.
- Lead cross-team initiatives from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and impact measurement.
- Partner with product engineering, developer infrastructure, and Global SRE teams on reliability and efficiency improvements.
- Participate in SLO management, on-call rotations, incident response, and blameless root-cause analyses.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or an equivalent degree.
- 8+ years of industry experience with a demonstrated track record of ownership.
- Strong computer science fundamentals, including algorithmic complexity, data-structure performance, and large-scale system design.
- Production coding experience in at least one object-oriented or systems language such as Java, Scala, Go, or C++.
- Production experience with distributed systems and microservice architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify ambiguous performance, scalability, or cost problems and deliver measurable production improvements.
- Strong quantitative reasoning about system behavior, capacity, performance, and cost using production data.
- Working fluency with AWS compute, storage, and networking infrastructure.
- Ability to investigate inefficiency across application code and the infrastructure on which it runs.
- Preferred qualifications include JVM tuning and garbage-collection optimization, FinOps or cost-attribution tooling, Kubernetes, Terraform, modern CI/CD tooling, prior SRE work, Kafka or Kafka Streams, and observability or security platform experience.
