Base Salary
$223k - $259k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and own core networking and transport stack components spanning overlay networking, routing, virtual connections, channel lifecycle, and physical transports.
- Re-architect the networking stack with modular interfaces, scalable abstractions, and clear ownership boundaries between transport layers and mesh systems.
- Debug and improve connectivity reliability, MTU negotiation, pairing stability, throughput, and cross-platform data synchronization.
- Build transport mechanisms handling flow control, backpressure, congestion, retries, connection lifecycles, and failure recovery.
- Optimize latency, memory usage, CPU utilization, and tail behavior in highly concurrent asynchronous systems.
- Design protocol state machines, wire formats, and transport abstractions for unreliable, intermittent, and constrained networks.
- Establish logging, metrics, and diagnostics for production debugging and root-cause analysis.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience building systems software, including at least 3 years focused on networking, transport protocols, or routing.
- Strong proficiency in Rust or C++, including ownership and borrowing semantics, asynchronous runtimes, concurrency primitives, profiling, and optimization.
- Understanding of TCP, UDP, and QUIC semantics and tradeoffs, including connection establishment, congestion and flow control, retransmission, MTU, and fragmentation.
- Experience debugging complex behavior in networked and concurrent systems, including race conditions, deadlocks, resource leaks, and latency spikes.
- Experience designing modular APIs and abstractions that support multiple implementations and safe evolution.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
- Preferred experience with mesh networking protocols, routing algorithms, gossip protocols, mobile platform constraints, Apple Core Bluetooth, Android WiFi Aware, Linux networking, sockets, async I/O, or low-level systems programming.
Benefits
- Remote work with flexible scheduling and flexible time off.
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity.
- US benefits include health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, a 401(k), and flexible spending accounts.
- Atlanta office access is available, and the role may involve travel once per quarter for in-person team gatherings.
About Ditto
Ditto builds a mobile and edge database with built-in peer-to-peer mesh networking and CRDT-based sync, enabling devices to share data without internet or servers. It sells a commercial SDK and tools to developers and enterprises running on phones, IoT hardware, and rugged systems, supporting cloud-optional deployments. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in San Francisco, it serves aviation, retail, travel, and defense customers, including Chick-fil-A, Delta Air Lines, and the U.S. military.
