Base Salary

$110k - $130k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and delivery of multimodal features and newsroom programming tools from technical design through production operation.
  • Build performant, reliable, and scalable frontend solutions across browsers and platforms.
  • Build robust backend services supporting high-scale media workflows.
  • Improve system quality and resolve issues using engineering and data-driven approaches.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions aligned with product and newsroom objectives.
  • Provide production support and participate in limited on-call rotations for reader-facing experiences and newsroom tooling.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to create multimodal user experiences.

Requirements

  • At least two years of professional experience building and shipping full-stack, user-facing features in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Full-stack proficiency with modern JavaScript frameworks on the client and server, plus HTML and CSS fundamentals.
  • Experience with backend technologies, databases, messaging systems, and cloud infrastructure, including technologies such as GraphQL, SQL, Kafka, Redis Queues, GCP, and AWS.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting and resolving issues in production environments.
  • Preferred: experience building web-based audio or video experiences using browser media APIs, streaming, and playback performance techniques.
  • Preferred: familiarity with text-to-speech or automated voice generation workflows.
  • Preferred: familiarity with players, encoding, streaming, accessibility, and analytics in the web media ecosystem.
  • Preferred: experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD tooling such as Drone and Jenkins, automated testing, deployments, observability, and monitoring.
