Principal Software Engineer, Back End (AI-powered Data Querying) (Bangkok based, Relocation provided)
AgodaResponsibilities
- Lead development of AI-powered data querying solutions that let users ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights.
- Architect and develop scalable data quality tools and frameworks for reliable and trustworthy data.
- Tackle complex technical challenges across AI query engines, data quality systems, and analytical engines.
- Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for AI-driven querying, query engines, and data quality tools with TPMs and stakeholders.
- Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards across data quality, governance, query engines, and the data platform.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields.
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL, large-scale data systems, and modern analytical databases or data warehouses such as StarRocks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or ClickHouse.
- Strong backend development experience with Python, Java, Scala, or similar technologies.
- Experience building or working with AI/LLM-based applications such as text-to-SQL systems, conversational interfaces, Cursor, or copilots.
- Experience with data platforms or analytical infrastructure at scale.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, query execution, and performance optimization.
- Proven ability to lead cross-team, high-impact technical initiatives and balance hands-on work with strategic technical leadership.
- Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with text-to-SQL systems, AI-driven data interfaces, analytical engines such as StarRocks, and data observability, quality, or governance frameworks.
- Experience with dbt, Airflow, Spark, or similar tools is preferred.
