Responsibilities
- Architect and develop highly scalable, mission-critical backend systems.
- Own major portions of Agoda’s systems from product vision and architecture through implementation and bytecode-level details.
- Enable collaboration and cross-team projects that improve service quality, code quality, and architecture.
- Provide thoughtful feedback, nurture an inclusive engineering environment, and champion engineering fundamentals.
- Identify and implement optimization opportunities across the technology stack, focusing on cost, efficiency, velocity, and developer experience.
- Provide technical leadership across the organization and explain complex technical trade-offs to business owners and C-suite executives.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering roles.
- Hands-on experience owning production services with significant responsibility for design, development, deployment, monitoring, and evolution.
- Strong programming skills in Kotlin, Scala, Java, or C#.
- Ability to research deeply and make decisions on complex projects while working independently and collaboratively.
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical details to stakeholders at all levels.
- Backend expertise and understanding of trade-offs across frontend, mobile, and data and analytics engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master's or Ph.D. in a technical field.
- Preferred: Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and scaling.
- Preferred: Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and practices relevant to machine learning.
- Preferred: Experience programming in Rust, C, or another low-level language.
