Responsibilities
- Design and build advertising and marketing platform features that help eBay sellers and advertisers grow their businesses.
- Develop scalable, highly available backend applications, APIs, and services using Marko, React, Node.js, Java, and Scala.
- Own complex features from technical design and architecture through deployment and production support.
- Drive system design, technical decisions, architectural tradeoffs, and cross-team alignment for reliable and maintainable solutions.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code for coding, debugging, testing, and code review.
- Collaborate with ML engineers on LLM integrations, recommendation systems, and intelligent campaign optimization.
- Mentor team members and contribute to technical discussions, engineering best practices, Agile development, and open-source collaboration.
Requirements
- BS/BA in Computer Science or a related field plus 10 years of work experience, or an MS with 8 years of relevant experience.
- Strong Java experience, including Java 17 or later, and experience building services with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs in distributed environments.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization, using technologies such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, or MongoDB.
- Familiarity with big-data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
- Proven ability to own end-to-end system design, lead design reviews, write technical design documents, and make architectural decisions for multi-service features.
- Experience designing scalable distributed systems and evaluating consistency, availability, latency, and cost tradeoffs.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, or AI-driven automation in production systems is a plus.
- Strong ownership and collaboration skills with the ability to drive work end to end.
- GraphQL and Federated GraphQL API experience is highly desirable.
- Open-source contribution experience is a plus.
