Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, high-performance backend services.
- Develop public REST APIs with Java and internal gRPC APIs for inter-service communication.
- Create system designs, lead design decisions, and align with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Write unit, integration, end-to-end, concurrency, load, and performance tests.
- Identify bottlenecks and technical debt and implement scalability, stability, monitoring, healing, and scaling improvements.
- Implement continuous integration and deployment automation to reduce time to market.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define and implement features.
- Conduct code reviews, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and promote engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, author root cause analyses, and drive lasting reliability improvements.
- Evaluate competing technologies and advise on technology solutions.
- Maintain design documents, run books, change management documents, and readiness plans.
- Provide live-site support, monitor production applications, resolve incidents, and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead cross-team projects as a single-threaded owner or technical lead and unblock other engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
- Senior software engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and problem solving.
- Expertise designing and developing internet-scale services with scalability, availability, security, and reliability considerations.
- Proficiency in backend development with Java or C#, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, ODATA, and SQL.
- Ability to use AI-enabled development tools such as Cursor AI, Kiro, and GitHub Copilot.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, empathetic mindset.
- Fluent English.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in computer science or software engineering.
- Preferred: Experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka, card payments, cloud-native architecture, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Preferred: Awareness of API security and PCI DSS compliance requirements.
- Preferred: Familiarity with iOS or Android development.
- Preferred: Experience building and deploying AI solutions, production-grade AI agents or copilots, and multi-agent or distributed AI architectures.
- Preferred: Experience with vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, OpenSearch, or Milvus.
- Preferred: Knowledge of AI evaluation techniques, safety practices, and responsible AI principles.
