Responsibilities
- Build and evolve the Core Commerce Services platform and scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities.
- Define APIs, domain boundaries, integration patterns, and the platform’s technical architecture.
- Contribute hands-on to implementation and production code in a Java-based backend environment.
- Drive technical alignment across Checkout, Payment, Product, and dependent engineering teams.
- Make pragmatic decisions around scalability, reliability, security, observability, and maintainability.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, code reviews, and technical feedback.
- Shape the technical foundations for future AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce, and emerging channels.
Requirements
- Strong Java and backend engineering expertise with experience designing and building backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience operating at Staff or Principal level, or demonstrated equivalent senior technical leadership.
- Strong system design and architecture capabilities with significant technical ownership and autonomy.
- Ability to work in a greenfield, 0-to-1 environment and shape architecture, APIs, and domain boundaries.
- Ability to evaluate options and trade-offs and turn ambiguity into pragmatic technical decisions.
- Strong track record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence across engineering domains.
- Experience with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS or platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is valuable but not required.
