Staff Backend Product Engineer, Customer Plans (all genders)
HelloFreshResponsibilities
- Own architecture, design, and technical strategy for complex microservices and distributed systems in the Customer Plans domain.
- Lead architectural reviews, technical decisions, specifications, and requirements traceability while ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Drive critical technical initiatives and cross-team projects in partnership with technical leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Design, build, operate, instrument, monitor, and improve backend services and systems at production scale.
- Establish engineering patterns and standards, mentor engineers, and promote operational excellence and high-quality delivery.
- Use AI-powered tools and methodologies to accelerate development and improve output quality.
- Apply product thinking by identifying customer problems, validating solutions with users and data, and shipping end-to-end improvements.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in microservices and distributed event-driven architectures.
- Expert-level proficiency in Go or JVM languages, including hands-on experience building and operating distributed systems in production.
- Proven experience making architectural decisions for large-scale distributed systems and integrations with applications and user interfaces.
- Advanced experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native architectures, and production operations at scale.
- Extensive experience with event-driven architectures and message-bus technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, and SQS/SNS.
- Deep expertise in relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design, performance optimization, and operational practices.
- Meaningful daily experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, establish technical standards, communicate effectively, and collaborate with senior stakeholders and distributed teams.
- Strong product sense, ownership, execution focus, and experience designing for observability, partial failure, asynchronous flows, and clear service contracts.
- Familiarity with e-commerce, subscription business models, and GraphQL integration is considered an advantage.
