Responsibilities

  • Define technical strategy and architecture for Walmart Health & Wellness engineering platforms.
  • Lead cross-team architecture initiatives, technical RFCs, design reviews, and consensus building.
  • Design scalable, fault-tolerant, high-throughput distributed systems for prescription, payer, and clinical workflows.
  • Establish organization-wide standards for APIs, service communication, data consistency, observability, security, and resilience.
  • Drive legacy modernization, incremental re-architecture, and platform-wide technical debt reduction.
  • Design platform capabilities, shared services, internal SDKs, and API governance practices.
  • Lead scalability, reliability, observability, capacity planning, and incident post-mortem improvements.
  • Mentor senior and principal engineers and contribute to hiring and leveling decisions for senior individual contributors.
  • Partner with engineering leadership, architects, product stakeholders, and platform teams on technical roadmaps and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.

Requirements

  • BE/BTech, ME/MTech, or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience is emphasized, with deep hands-on expertise in Java backend development and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Expert knowledge of Core Java, JVM internals, garbage collection tuning, memory models, concurrency, Spring Boot, reactive programming, asynchronous programming, and performance profiling.
  • Proven ability to design distributed, fault-tolerant, high-throughput systems at 100K+ requests per second.
  • Experience with microservices, event-driven architecture, distributed caching, API mesh, multi-region deployments, platform engineering, and internal SDKs.
  • Experience with OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, GraphQL federation, and gRPC at scale.
  • Advanced relational and NoSQL database expertise, including partitioning, replication, read replicas, consistency patterns, and schema evolution.
  • Understanding of HIPAA, PHI/ePHI governance, audit trails, and HL7, FHIR, NCPDP, and X12 EDI standards.
  • Expertise with GCP, Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, service meshes, multi-region failover, and cloud cost optimization.
  • Experience designing observability strategies, defining SLI/SLO/SLA metrics, alerting, chaos engineering, capacity planning, and systemic incident remediation.
  • Track record of driving organization-wide technical decisions, authoring RFCs and ADRs, representing engineering in executive forums, and mentoring senior technical talent.
  • Minimum qualification may be met through a bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of relevant experience or 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred qualification is a master’s degree in a relevant computer science or engineering field plus 2 years of relevant experience.
