Staff Software Engineer (Customer Platform)

Responsibilities
- Own features end to end from design through implementation, rollout, and iteration.
- Design, build, and evolve backend systems and REST/gRPC APIs in Go for entitlements, policies, and customer onboarding.
- Serve as the primary technical interface between Customer Platform and the Containers, Libraries, and OS packages teams.
- Build integration paths based on requirements from multiple engineering teams.
- Extend Chainguard’s agentic AI foundation into customer-facing product experiences.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers.
- Help the team resolve ambiguity, prioritize tradeoffs, and deliver iteratively against a product-driven roadmap.
Requirements
- Production experience with Go.
- Strong ownership of API design and backend systems at scale, including shipping and operating them in production.
- Experience collaborating across multiple engineering teams on technical standards, integration patterns, and shared infrastructure.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity by providing diagnoses, recommendations, and paths forward.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical guidance without a management title.
- Familiarity with cloud-native environments, Kubernetes, and cloud provider APIs is preferred.
- Experience with entitlements, billing systems, or platform infrastructure is preferred but not required.
- Prior experience building or extending AI-powered product features is preferred.
