
Senior Software Engineer – Benchmarking, Performance & Competitive Analysis

Responsibilities
- Design and execute systematic benchmarks comparing Renesas solutions with competitor platforms.
- Develop standardized, repeatable, and defensible cross-vendor benchmark methodologies.
- Benchmark connectivity interfaces and solution-level industrial networking, latency, bandwidth, graphics, and AI workloads.
- Build automated benchmark frameworks and test harnesses for continuous regression tracking.
- Author competitive analysis reports and present findings to engineering leadership, product management, and sales teams.
- Provide objective performance data and demonstrations for customer-facing activities.
- Collaborate with architecture and marketing teams to translate benchmark findings into product requirements.
- Stay current with industry benchmarks and emerging workload requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in embedded systems performance analysis, benchmarking, or competitive analysis roles in the semiconductor industry.
- Experience designing and executing rigorous, reproducible benchmark campaigns.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including TSN, EtherCAT, PROFINET, and CAN-FD.
- Experience with network latency and bandwidth measurement, RFC 2544-style testing, and packet generators.
- Experience with graphics and compute APIs, profiling, and benchmark suites including SPEC, CoreMark, Dhrystone, LMbench, GLMark, LuxMark, and Stream.
- Proficiency with performance profiling tools and use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
- Ability to use Python for test orchestration and data analysis, with statistical analysis skills including variance analysis, confidence intervals, and controlled A/B comparisons.
- Embedded Linux and RTOS administration and configuration experience, including Yocto, buildroot, FreeRTOS, and Zephyr.
- ARM and RISC-V architecture expertise, including NEON and RVV vector extensions, plus understanding of cache hierarchy, DMA, and SoC data paths.
- Experience publishing or contributing to benchmark standards such as EEMBC or MLPerf is preferred.
- AI/ML inference benchmarking experience with MLPerf, ONNX Runtime, TensorFlow Lite, or CMSIS-NN is preferred.
- Competitive analysis or technical product marketing experience, sales-team technical due diligence, and hardware emulation or early silicon bring-up experience are preferred.
