Responsibilities
- Build end-to-end features across backend services, APIs, data models, web front ends, and Android point-of-sale and handheld applications.
- Learn unfamiliar platforms and codebases quickly, including Android and Kotlin.
- Help determine product direction by understanding customer needs and contributing product opinions.
- Collaborate with a small cross-functional team to deliver products quickly to customers.
- Navigate diverse Toast codebases and deliver high-quality code on schedule.
- Own testing, instrumentation, on-call responsibilities, cleanup, and other aspects of software development.
- Use AI tools to improve development velocity and quality and contribute to new engineering approaches.
Requirements
- Track record of shipping meaningful products to real users with measurable technical and business impact.
- Full-stack experience owning features from backend services and APIs through client applications.
- Strong backend fundamentals in Java, Kotlin, or a similar language, including distributed systems, asynchronous communication, event-driven architecture, API design, and integration patterns.
- Experience with modern web front-end development using React or a similar technology.
- Ability to learn new languages, frameworks, or platforms on the job and ship production code.
- Ability to deliver clean, maintainable, resilient code.
- Experience with 0→1 product builds and comfort working with shifting priorities and incomplete requirements.
- Strong written communication, collaboration, technical design, and alignment skills.
- Demonstrated use of AI tools to accelerate work and improve delivery quality.
- Preferred experience includes production Android/Kotlin development, early-stage products or incubations, point-of-sale, payments, hardware-adjacent or offline-first systems, and filling varied team gaps.
