Responsibilities
- Turn ambiguous, high-level product ideas into concrete technical plans by consulting relevant stakeholders.
- Design, build, test, and ship end-to-end features across Java/Spring backend, REST APIs, data layers, frontend, infrastructure, and rollout.
- Assess an existing codebase to determine what to reuse or rebuild and prevent unnecessary technical debt.
- Anticipate system effects, make technical and product tradeoffs, manage risk, and deliver features to completion.
- Use Cursor, Claude/Codex, the internal AI portal, MCP, and custom automations or skills as part of daily development.
- Critically evaluate AI-generated output and challenge product requests when they are not technically sound.
Requirements
- Strong full-stack engineering experience with Java, Spring, REST APIs, SQL, TypeScript, and React 19.
- Demonstrated ownership of features or systems from idea through production rather than only executing fully specified tickets.
- Experience navigating and improving a complex, existing codebase rather than working exclusively in greenfield environments.
- Advanced hands-on use of AI coding tools in daily development workflows.
- Ability to make decisions under ambiguity, manage risk, and own outcomes.
- Background such as technical founder, early startup engineer, small-company CTO or Head of Engineering, or senior engineer with recent open-source or side-project work.
