Responsibilities
- Operate and manage large-scale production Amazon Aurora MySQL and Aurora PostgreSQL clusters.
- Perform database upgrades, patching, parameter tuning, migrations, and Blue/Green Deployment-based changes with minimal downtime.
- Monitor performance and resolve bottlenecks through query optimization, index tuning, configuration changes, capacity planning, and scaling recommendations.
- Ensure database availability and reliability through proactive monitoring, incident response, on-call participation, failover strategy design, and recovery validation.
- Develop Python automation scripts, internal tools, AI skills, prompts, and generated code or configurations for database operations.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures and contribute to internal operational frameworks.
- Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and security teams on database architecture, authentication, change management, and related projects.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Engineer.
- 2+ years of experience creating AI automation for personal or company workflows, storage, or code.
- 5+ years of production experience managing Amazon Aurora MySQL and/or Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Strong knowledge of MySQL 8.0+, including replication, InnoDB internals, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL extensions, vacuuming, and major version upgrades.
- Proficiency with AWS database services and related services including Aurora, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC, and Parameter Groups.
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for automation.
- Experience operating databases in large-scale, high-traffic environments handling 10,000+ TPS.
- Preferred qualifications include English communication skills, database Blue/Green Deployment and migration experience, database security expertise, Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform or CloudFormation, monitoring experience with Grafana or Prometheus, CI/CD and GitOps experience, and experience with NoSQL or NewSQL databases.
