Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain a Linux operating system optimized for eBay’s Kubernetes platform and its supporting cluster management system.
  • Contribute to Linux kernel development and performance tuning across scheduling, memory, filesystem, networking, scalability, reliability, and security concerns.
  • Build high-performance infrastructure automation and diagnostic tools using Go and Python.
  • Develop BPF-based operating-system diagnostic tools and Cilium/BPF-based network segmentation and service mesh solutions.
  • Manage Kubernetes cluster lifecycle operations, including provisioning, upgrades, technical refreshes, and decommissioning.
  • Implement observability frameworks to monitor system health, performance, and reliability at scale.
  • Collaborate across teams to validate and integrate optimized Linux distributions across diverse infrastructure environments.
  • Lead and mentor team members, manage small projects, and drive cross-functional issues through end-to-end resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Linux systems, including Linux kernel triage, operations, and OS internals.
  • Strong understanding of process scheduling, memory management, file systems, and networking.
  • Proficiency in C++, Go, or Python.
  • Expertise orchestrating containerized applications and building scalable cluster management systems.
  • Ability to identify system-level gaps, propose effective solutions, and drive resolution across teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor team members, manage small projects, and collaborate effectively across teams.
