Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between mobile Project Management and Quality and Safety teams and backend engineering teams.
- Drive the design and implementation of mobile-friendly REST and GraphQL APIs for offline-first and low-connectivity conditions.
- Identify API limitations in field-use scenarios and work with backend teams to close gaps.
- Align backend, mobile, platform, and product teams on contracts, dependencies, and shared standards.
- Represent mobile requirements in backend architectural discussions without directly owning backend architecture.
- Mentor and develop distributed engineers through code reviews, pairing, and training.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues at the mobile/backend boundary and serve as an incident escalation point.
- Identify recurring mobile/backend friction and organize cross-team solutions.
- Use generative tools and agentic workflows to support AI-centered ways of working.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years of combined software engineering experience with technical leadership, mentoring, and team development experience.
- Direct client-side mobile or web development experience, or strong understanding of client-side constraints.
- Working fluency in backend development with Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Java, or similar technologies.
- Experience designing or influencing REST and/or GraphQL APIs, ideally for offline-first or low-connectivity scenarios.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills across distributed teams and time zones.
- Strong Test Driven Development background and familiarity with shift-left quality practices.
- Systems-thinking ability and a pragmatic focus on delivering high-quality working software.
- A product mindset and/or mobile automation background is preferred.
