Staff Software Engineer, Slack Desktop Client
InformaticaResponsibilities
- Lead cross-functional initiatives involving Electron, developer productivity, OS-level stability, performance, and security.
- Contribute to architectural decisions supporting frontend and desktop infrastructure and new product features.
- Identify and solve ambiguous technical problems such as framework migrations and rendering bottlenecks.
- Maintain and improve the core systems, infrastructure, and tooling powering the Slack desktop client and Electron framework.
- Establish technical patterns for large shared codebases with hundreds of contributors.
- Lead technical design and strategic architecture for complex systems and tooling.
- Use performance profiling and debugging tools for web-based desktop applications.
- Mentor engineers, coach emerging leaders, and foster a safe learning environment.
- Collaborate across engineering organizations, facilitate dialogue, de-escalate conflicts, and drive consensus.
- Contribute to Electron and Slack initiatives related to desktop development standards and the broader Electron vision.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience writing client-side code with React and TypeScript for modern web applications at scale.
- Deep Chromium experience or experience contributing to large-scale open-source projects.
- Experience working in large shared codebases with hundreds of contributors and establishing effective contribution patterns.
- Experience writing understandable, testable, maintainable, and scalable code.
- Expertise building complex systems and tooling and leading technical design decisions.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to connect technical infrastructure work to performance, reliability, and developer velocity goals.
- Experience with performance profiling and debugging tools for web-based desktop applications.
- Familiarity with desktop development and the ability to explain technical trade-offs and complexities.
- Strong collaboration, mentoring, feedback, self-awareness, empathy, and learning skills.
- Preferred: external engineering contributions such as blog posts, conference speaking, or open-source contributions.
- Preferred: experience developing on Windows and maintaining build infrastructure for Windows desktop applications.
- Preferred: experience in fast-paced and dynamic product development environments.
