Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy and direction for critical integration platform surface areas.
- Design and evolve APIs, primitives, SDKs, and self-service platform workflows.
- Own authentication, data-ingestion, and schema-evolution primitives for external integrations.
- Build secure, scalable backend services and developer tooling, including CI/CD capabilities.
- Drive performance, reliability, operational excellence, and SDLC best practices.
- Make and defend buy-versus-build and one-way-door architectural decisions.
- Mentor engineers, establish design patterns, and influence technical decisions across teams.
- Create sample integrations, proofs of concept, AI Skills, documentation, and workshops for internal engineering teams.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend development experience building reliable, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems.
- Deep experience evolving core APIs, SDKs, and platform abstractions.
- Expertise with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, OAuth, API keys, JWT, and security best practices.
- Experience building resilient integrations and data ingestion from cloud providers, HRIS platforms, identity providers, and code repositories.
- Knowledge of rate limiting, retries, idempotency, webhooks, and schema-drift handling.
- Strong systems-thinking skills for scale, reliability, failure modes, and proactive risk management.
- Experience leading teams or complex projects and influencing decisions across an organization.
- Willingness to use AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact.
- Startup experience, greenfield development, multi-region or government deployments, and security or compliance product experience are bonuses.
