Responsibilities

  • Develop Tailscale’s open-source client code and related backend services, emphasizing networking features and optimizations.
  • Design, build, test, and document core networking software components.
  • Own services throughout their lifecycle, including observability, incident response, and customer support escalations.
  • Analyze and improve the efficiency, scalability, and stability of networking systems and resources.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers and product managers to shape networking capabilities.
  • Apply security-focused design and implementation practices to networking components.

Requirements

  • Proven experience implementing application-layer networking concepts and distributed components such as proxies, connectors, and overlay routing.
  • Deep knowledge of operating-system networking internals, including socket programming, routing tables, and packet filtering primitives.
  • Professional experience with Go.
  • Experience designing and maintaining distributed systems, including concurrency, multithreading, race conditions, memory management, synchronization primitives, and scalability.
  • Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, including writing efficient SQL queries.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, work independently, give and process constructive feedback, and adapt in a fast-paced startup environment.
