Responsibilities
- Lead moderately complex software engineering initiatives and deliverables within a technical domain.
- Design, code, test, debug, document, upgrade, and deploy technology projects and programs.
- Drive reliability, resiliency, observability, scalability, availability, and operational excellence across platform and application services.
- Define and apply SLI/SLOs, error budgets, reliability metrics, dashboards, alerting, logging, and monitoring practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve large-scale distributed production-system issues.
- Build scripting, automation, and reliability tooling to reduce operational toil.
- Lead projects, serve as an escalation point, and provide guidance to less experienced staff.
- Collaborate with peers, colleagues, mid-level managers, engineering teams, and senior leadership to resolve technical challenges.
- Support capacity management, performance engineering, resiliency design, and technical debt remediation for critical legacy platforms.
- Mentor or lead senior engineers in reliability, operations, or SRE-focused roles.
Requirements
- 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.
- Deep expertise in at least one platform domain, including Database, Cloud, Network, Compute/Storage, Middleware, or Enterprise Application Support.
- Strong hands-on experience with SRE practices, including SLI/SLO definition, error budgets, and reliability metrics.
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving large-scale distributed production systems.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, and/or PowerShell.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Splunk, Prometheus, Cribl, ThousandEyes, or AppDynamics.
- Experience building automation or reliability tooling using APIs, Git-based workflows, and modern engineering practices.
- Understanding of incident, problem, and change management in enterprise production environments.
- Experience with capacity management, performance engineering, and resiliency design, including high availability, fault tolerance, and RTO/RPO.
- Experience operating in hybrid on-premises and cloud environments with complex enterprise dependencies.
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
- Ability to drive technical debt remediation for critical legacy platforms using structured backlogs.
- Experience mentoring or leading senior engineers in reliability, operations, or SRE-focused roles.
- Strong communication and influencing skills across engineering teams and senior leadership.
