Base Salary
$215k - $295k/yr
Responsibilities
- Function as a technical lead across multiple Payroll Services teams and help keep engineers unblocked.
- Design, build, test, operationalize, and scale systems supporting compliant payroll for millions of people.
- Develop platform products, services, tools, and APIs that improve team productivity and enable other application teams.
- Drive product development from concept through launch while influencing feature specifications and long-term system direction.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Design, Data Science, Compliance, Operations, and other cross-functional partners.
- Mentor and grow fellow engineers and facilitate informed tradeoffs on complex technical problems.
- Stay current with AI and machine learning advancements and apply relevant knowledge to projects.
Requirements
- At least 15 years of experience is typically expected.
- Experience working across three or more teams and influencing product and team direction.
- Experience building platform products depended upon throughout a company.
- Experience engineering, designing, building, supporting, operationalizing, and scaling large production systems.
- Strong knowledge of data structures, data modeling, and system design.
- Ability to build maintainable, structured, and well-documented code.
- Experience working in complex, highly regulated domains such as HR, payroll, taxes, or compliance.
- Experience using AI tools to build, test, and iterate on products and evaluating AI-driven outputs with clear success criteria.
- Commitment to current backend technologies and AI frameworks and patterns, with willingness to contribute to shared AI experimentation tools or templates.
- Ability to communicate technical complexity, clarify ambiguous problems, and facilitate informed stakeholder tradeoffs.
