Responsibilities
- Lead hands-on technical design and implementation across streaming and batch pipelines, lakehouse layers, metadata, semantic layers, and reporting data products.
- Design and deliver an AWS medallion lakehouse using S3, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, and dbt while evolving existing warehouse environments.
- Build configuration- and metadata-driven platform capabilities that let domain teams safely onboard sources, schema changes, pipelines, and data products.
- Ensure datasets and products are registered, documented, discoverable, governed, and automatically populated with schema, lineage, and ownership metadata through DataHub.
- Define versioned data product and semantic-layer contracts with explicit ownership, quality expectations, testing, and deprecation paths.
- Build AI-assisted internal developer tooling and use spec-driven, agentic workflows to scaffold pipeline configuration, models, contracts, tests, and documentation.
- Lead architecture strategy, technical reviews, proof-of-concept work, documentation, and implementation processes.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, developers, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical specifications and data product designs.
- Mentor developers and promote quality, security, continuous learning, and collaborative team practices.
Requirements
- A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 8 years of scalable development experience with lead and software design responsibilities, including substantial data platform and pipeline development.
- At least 2 years in a technical leadership role involving scalable platforms, technology transformation, and modernization initiatives.
- Deep hands-on data engineering experience across streaming and batch systems, including Debezium, Kafka, and Flink.
- Experience with AWS lakehouse and medallion architecture using S3, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, and dbt.
- Experience with warehouse engines, declarative asset-based orchestration such as Airflow, metadata and lineage platforms such as DataHub, data contracts, schema governance, data quality, observability, and service levels.
- Experience designing governed, reusable semantic layers and data products, including Looker or LookML; dbt Semantic Layer or Cube familiarity is an asset.
- Extensive AWS cloud-native infrastructure experience and working familiarity with GCP, BigQuery, and Looker; Azure experience is a plus.
- Experience with domain-driven design, loosely coupled and event-driven systems, reusable abstractions, cloud delivery, Infrastructure-as-Code, DevSecOps, automated testing, and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
- Experience with AI-led, spec-driven, agentic development workflows such as Cursor and with building internal developer tooling.
- Strong software design, communication, problem-solving, architecture, mentoring, and continuous-improvement skills.
- Relevant cloud-platform or technology certification is a plus.
Benefits
- Flexible hybrid work arrangement with no fixed in-office requirement, while encouraging in-person collaboration for onboarding, project work, and team alignment.
- Growth opportunities, innovative work, caring coworkers, and purpose-driven work supporting social action.
- Employee resource groups and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
