Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and direction to technical teams, contractors, vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Design, develop, operate, debug, and maintain scalable data platform services, backend systems, and large-scale data pipelines.
  • Produce secure, high-quality production code and review code written by others.
  • Drive decisions affecting data platform architecture, application functionality, technical operations, and engineering processes.
  • Serve as a function-wide subject-matter expert in areas such as distributed data processing, data storage, and platform reliability.
  • Lead enterprise adoption of AI-assisted engineering and SDLC automation practices across multiple teams.
  • Establish governance, validation, security, resiliency, reuse, and measurable performance expectations for AI-assisted delivery practices.
  • Advocate for firmwide software development frameworks, tools, and practices and influence adoption of leading-edge data and backend technologies.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 10+ years of applied experience.
  • Hands-on experience with system design, application development, testing, and operational stability for data platforms and backend systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in both Python and Java, with experience building APIs, services, and distributed systems.
  • Strong big data and database experience, including Spark, Databricks, and/or Data Lake and large-scale data pipelines.
  • Experience designing and operating ingestion, processing, storage, and access or serving layers for data platforms.
  • Experience with AWS cloud computing, including services such as ECS, EKS, EMR, and Lambda.
  • Experience leading multi-team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and delivery tools, including governance, human-in-the-loop validation, quality gates, outcome measurement, and secure handling of sensitive inputs and outputs.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, data sensitivity, resiliency, security, and control expectations.
  • Advanced knowledge in one or more technical disciplines such as cloud, distributed data processing, artificial intelligence, or machine learning.
  • Ability to independently solve design and functionality problems with little to no oversight.
  • Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment and collaborating with geographically distributed global teams.
  • Preferred experience with AI, ML, Claude, MCP, data orchestration and workflow tools such as Airflow, and streaming technologies such as Kafka.
  • Familiarity with Scrum, CI/CD, Applicant Resiliency, and Security.
