Responsibilities
- Architect and build the high-volume lakehouse and data-product platform using dbt Core, Airflow, Trino, Apache Iceberg, S3 Tables, and Glue Catalog.
- Own platform workflows for project structure, orchestration, CI/CD, environments, semantic and metrics definitions, and operational support.
- Drive performance and scaling through Iceberg layout maintenance, partitioning, incremental processing, compression, and Trino tuning.
- Lead high-availability and disaster-recovery design, including multi-AZ resilience, failover, backup and restore, and recovery objectives.
- Design authentication, authorization, IAM, encryption, and governed multi-tenant access across catalog, compute, storage, and visualization layers.
- Use Terraform to define and evolve production infrastructure, environments, and blast-radius controls.
- Own monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, safe reruns, backfills, and platform on-call participation.
- Establish reusable dbt, data-modeling, data-quality, and visualization patterns and evaluate technologies that improve scalability, cost efficiency, governance, or developer experience.
- Set architectural direction across teams, mentor engineers, document and evangelize best practices, and serve as the platform’s primary architect and escalation point.
Requirements
- 14+ years of software development engineering experience.
- 6+ years designing, building, and operating complex distributed-system architectures with high availability and fault tolerance.
- 8+ years using at least two programming languages such as Java, Python, and Go in production distributed systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; a relevant master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Expertise in algorithms, API development, distributed systems, high-availability strategies, scalability, fault tolerance, and failure recovery.
- Large-scale data processing and lakehouse experience with technologies such as Kafka, Spark, Flink, Airflow, Trino, Apache Iceberg, Amazon S3 or S3 Tables, and AWS Glue Data Catalog.
- Production dbt Core experience at scale, including large model graphs, testing, data-quality frameworks, incremental models, and reusable project architecture.
- Strong production SQL, data modeling, query optimization, and physical-layout optimization experience.
- Experience designing and operating production cloud infrastructure with Terraform or an equivalent tool.
- Experience with multi-tenant access control, IAM, encryption, governed analytical-data access, and visualization or semantic layers such as Apache Superset, Metabase, or Looker.
- Proven ability to lead collaboration across software teams, drive architectural direction, and communicate through technical writing, documentation, and presentations.
Benefits
- Flexible work model requiring at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field, with remote home-office flexibility.
- Eligibility for the Workday Bonus Plan or role-specific bonus and annual refresh stock grants.
- Comprehensive benefits package and reasonable accommodations during the application process.
