Responsibilities
- Design and implement the observability layer across application, integration, event, agent, audit, and cloud-runtime components.
- Define standards for logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, dashboards, correlation IDs, and trace propagation.
- Configure OpenTelemetry instrumentation and Collector pipelines for microservices, APIs, Kafka producers and consumers, agent services, and connectors.
- Build Grafana, CloudWatch, and other operational dashboards for platform health, APIs, Kafka processing, agent decisions, incidents, audits, and deployments.
- Monitor Kafka and Amazon MSK throughput, consumer lag, failed events, retries, dead-letter queues, partition health, and processing latency.
- Implement observability for AI-agent workflows, including invocation counts, latency, decision outcomes, confidence distribution, tool-call failures, and human-in-the-loop routing.
- Define actionable alerts, escalation views, runbooks, telemetry retention, masking, filtering, routing, and access-control practices.
- Support production-readiness reviews, operational handover, troubleshooting, end-to-end testing, and automated observability deployment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, make team-level technical decisions, mentor junior engineers, and lead process improvements.
Requirements
- At least 7.5 years of experience, including a stated minimum of 7.5 years with Grafana.
- Proficiency in Grafana is required.
- Hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry instrumentation, Collector configuration, telemetry transformation, and OTLP receivers and exporters.
- Experience with metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, distributed systems, microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with Apache Kafka or Amazon MSK monitoring, including consumer lag, topic throughput, retries, failed events, and dead-letter queues.
- Experience with containerized workloads on Kubernetes, EKS, ECS, or an equivalent runtime.
- Experience with one or more of Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Jaeger, Dynatrace, Splunk, Azure Monitor, or Application Insights.
- Experience with telemetry masking, filtering, enrichment, routing, secure TLS/mTLS forwarding, and correlation standards.
- Experience with Guidewire Cloud or insurance-platform telemetry, ServiceNow incident integration, and AI-agent workflow monitoring is preferred.
- Experience with GitHub Actions, Terraform, Helm, GitOps-style observability deployment, and SRE-style operational dashboards is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle, scalable software components, operational troubleshooting, production support, and agile methodologies.
- 15 years of full-time education is required.
